That kickmaster game sounds awesome! I didn't know it had a Medieval base to it. now I'm going to have to play it!!!! I should ask my brother if he knows about it, maybe I'll luck out and he'll have it already. If only! PLAY IT! and you'll get just as obsessed. It's like a Ren faire gone wrong and invaded by ghostly devilish creatures from Hieronymous Bosch and Brueghel's paintings, set to a killer soundtrack. Make it your goal to hunt this game down and you will not regret this. Here's a description I lifted from BigBandBlitz's "Criminally Overlooked Games" series on youtube (I won't post the video link if you wanna immerse in the game without knowing beforehand what it looks like) : "Kickmaster was perhaps Taito's greatest Nintendo effort. The game is a side scrolling Nintendo title like many others, but this one stands out above them with outstanding graphics, flawlessly precise controls, quite good sound effects and an entirely classic soundtrack. It's mostly action but has some mysteries and hidden things to find here and there. It has an experience system that levels up your lifebar, gives you new moves, and further allows you to use magic to help you out. Yes, you get to use magic and to a great degree. Once you find them you'll have an array of healing and status spells, magic fireballs and screen clearing death dealers to waste your hoarded magic points on. It has a very unique item dropping feature that some may find annoying, but in the context of this game it adds a frenetic extra layer of strategy and gives the player a reason to always be on their toes if they want to be in the best shape possible. Three progressive levels of difficulty and a password system (a Taxan/Naxat staple) help give the game decent replayability for the obsessive types. Now, it's not all sunshine and unicorns of course. There are a number of confusing technical glitches (though none are related to performance issues), the difficulty curve is sporadic and sometimes powering up can give you a slight disadvantage attack-wise, but these are minor quibbles. The game would have really had a chance to clean up at retail, but it was released very late into the life cycle of the NES, and nearly everyone had moved on to Sega's or Nintendo's latest 16 bit monster by the time it was done." So that's the reason for its obscurity, it arrived too late on the scene. I remember seeing my friend play it in 1993, and then getting my hands on it in 1995. Aaand then getting my hands on it in 2006 ;D Thanks for the info on that console that plays NES games and Sega, now a console is all I need. I heard old NES systems suffer from blinking screen and need to be refurbished? How much does that multi-platform console go for?

@hjalagh: the FC-twin can be found on eBay for 40-50 dollars, some with free shipping. Not bad considering it comes with NES and SNES, and I'd assume a lot less problems than the original systems. The one that includes sega, my brother said is called the FC-three, but I haven't found it yet, although I've searched only briefly. If I can find it I'll send the link your way. Savi: That game was so amazing. I used to play my brother in it all the time, and when the Street Fighter movie with Van Damme in it came out, I was so happy as a child. I still love that movie just because it was so cool getting to see those fighters "for real".

Does this not look like the most wicked game for a metal fan to own?! Any video game that features Lemmy and Halford as characters (among others I've heard) has to be cool!
Damn. I was already pissed that Soul Calibur IV wasn't on Wii and neither is this. Now I have no choice but to find a PS3.

I've been meaning to post that game as well, Crys, but looks like you beat me to it. My brother, thankfully being a game fanatic and having more than enough money to buy 60 dollar games with bought it, and it looks quite amazing. I've never actually played it, but it's even just fun watching him play it. Lemmy and Halford are indeed in it, as well as other musicians and comedians. Surprisingly the in-game soundtrack (of which you get to drive around in your "Deuce" to find and acquire new songs) even includes some Enslaved, Carcass, and Dark Funeral if I'm not mistaken. The story is pretty cool too and the comedy and one-liners of all the characters are just great. Not to mention it is also a real time strategy game in some areas, which if you are an RTS fan like me it is great. Oh, and Crys, I'd have to recommend the xbox 360 as opposed to the PS3. But it depends on what you are looking for. If you want gaming, 360 all the way, but if you want blue ray capabilities with the occassional gaming than perhaps the PS3 is right for you. I've always kind of kicked playstation to the side since the first XBOX game out. Afterall that is what Elder Scrolls III Morrowind came out on, and I just think microsoft runs a great business compared to sony (who refused to lower the price of their old big systems when replacing them with their new slim model simply because it cost so much to manufacture, rather than taking a hit and keeping their fans happy). But that is just my personal opinion. Not to mention with xbox you get TONS of extra features, and xbox live only costs 40 dollars for 13 months (if you buy a card from amazon) and once a month they always have a band or some other more well known group or individual who they sponsor on xbox live that you can team up with and play with too. Perhaps I have been spending too much time around my video game freak brother, but kind of hard not to when you live with him, haha.

Brutal Legend is a great game! It not so much fun to PLAY as it is just really good looking and funny. I think I'd have liked it better if it were a point&click quest for PC... Anyway I don't have a ps3 or an X-box so I can only play it at a friends house, cant wait to get a chance to spent 3-4 days with it alone "So you're the guardian of the sacred beer tree? DREAM JOB!"

I bought Brutal Legend for the boy a couple of days ago... it is more than just a game, it's... a tribute and an affirmation. It's incredibly cool just to watch someone else play (I'm not a gamer myself). The game designers must be metalheads - there are so many in-jokes and references only a metalhead would really appreciate. Even the track selection is inspired, it's like they hired someone to sneak into my house in the middle of the night and copy down the tracks on my mix CD's. Like Iced Earth's "Pure Evil", for example - alas not the version with Matt Barlow's vocals, but I can live with that.
So... if you're a gamer and metalhead, you need to play this game. If you're just a metalhead, get it for the nearest gamer and prepare to rock out.

The game was created by Tim Schafer, who is certainly a metalhead, which makes this game so great. I've heard it has been years in the making as Tim has let the idea boil over in his head until he considered it complete to start work on. The sole fact that Lemmy, Halford, and other true Metal heads and musicians talk for the game is just another testament to it being made for metalheads by metalheads. Tim Schafer is actually a pretty funny guy himself if you watch any of his interviews or promotions for the game. Makes you appreciate the game that much more.

He is a very cool guy, and I love all of his games (the ones I played, anyway). He made monkey island which is my favorite quests series of all times! And he also made "Full Throttle" - a really great quest game about a tough biker! Also recommended for metalheads.

Oh, and Crys, I'd have to recommend the xbox 360 as opposed to the PS3. But it depends on what you are looking for. If you want gaming, 360 all the way, but if you want blue ray capabilities with the occassional gaming than perhaps the PS3 is right for you. I only have a slight preference due to Soul Calibur IV. And it's a dorky preference at that! The version for 360 features Yoda as a playable character and PS3 has Vader. Screw the Jedi, I want to be the high lord of the Sith! ;D I got the Wii as a gift thinking that SCIV would no doubt be on that platform, but f****** Namco didn't release it. Instead there was some "special" edition completely different than the storyline and play style made for the family friendly Nintendo folks. Now Tekken 6 is due to be released, again not for Wii. Sorry for the rant... Everything should be equal, the certain editions for certain systems rule sucks for gamers. Which is why I'm more into PC gaming than consoles to begin with. Do you think that the 360 has the better graphics and processing for gaming? PS3 maybe a glorified DVD player? LOL! With these new games it looks like I may have to take the loss and get one of the other systems.
