@helran: Sounds great! Too bad I don't dare to check the store here at work, because with my luck someone would pop in from the door on the very second I clicked the link Looks like I've completely forgot to advertise our indie movie group in here. We just took part in yet another 48 hours film making contest and managed to do a pretty sweet short flick in that time. Unfortunately the movie can't be shared in public quite yet, but here's our last year's work which won the 1st price on the competition. Engrish subs in the CC

@ Nordis (again ): Just thought you might like Michel Foucault writings. Her books sound really interesting at least according to Wikipedia. Thanks! I needed something to read last night so I just picked up Goth chic by Gavin Baddeley. It's a in-depth study of gothic culture and it's roots. At least the first chapter about 1800's romanticism and decadence was pretty interesting.

It's pretty light to read so I'll just beat it before starting with philosophy. I also had a really old print of Vänrikki Stoolin Tarinat (epic war poetry by finnish national poet Runeberg) next to the Seven brothers, but the book was a "School edition" so I don't know if it's complete or have they left something out from it. Turns out the book was complete, but I never finished it. Neither have I started any classical philosophy as I intended Instead I read " The Fall: The Insanity of the Ego in Human History and the Dawning of A New Era" by Steve Taylor, which I highly recommend to everyone. It's a study about what the hell went wrong with human psyche about 6.000 years ago when we transformed from mostly egalitarian hunter-gatherers and early farmers to warlike oppressors and destroyers. As a fair warning, some hard-boiled atheists, sceptics and science believers might be annoyed by the slight hint of spiritualism in the book, but even if that bothers you the historical facts and comparisons between the world views of native people and the more "civilized" settlers should be really interesting. I guess the next books I'm going to read are from the dozens of references in that book, there was some really interesting anthropological studies and old travel stories Yep. It's not the original edition though, might have been something like 8th or so

Paleface - Tyhjästä sanasta sakko This new album isn't lyrically as good as the last one imo, but musically this rap-folk-jazz-proge-crossover is pretty damn awesome

HARALD THE VIKING POWER BEER
...seriously, even the worst finnish bulk low-alcohol beers have more taste than this one. This is supposed to have honey in it, but I guess they didn't dare to put more than a tea spoon for a barrel worrying that someone might actually taste something. What a rip-off, avoid at all cost.

I am a survivalist and we make fun of Bear Grylls a lot, because you really CAN'T drink pee in a survival situation. So i found this especially funny. memebase.com/category/bear-grylls/And that reminded me of... ;D

To those who might know this from the past. I'm the founder of Vikingblood.net (a metalzine for Viking/Pagan and/or Folkmetal) .. after a long term of silence, the website started up again with a new forum, monthly newsletter you can subscribe on ect. If you are interested, the website ( www.vikingblood.net) goes live again on the 1st of March. Just check it out! It's certainly been a while, great to see the page running after all these years. I can't even count the bands I found through the original Vikingblood forums and it's ancestor which name I can't even remember anymore I'll just promote my stuff real quick, since this forum might not be the most fertile soil for electronic music. Anyways, we've got a few great club nights coming this spring in Helsinki, so PARTY LIKE IT'S 2085! ;D infektio.wordpress.com/

Håp! I don't know when was the last time you visited Helsinki, but in the last 3-5 years the number of actual metal bars have gone crashing down. Your best bet in the city center would be PRKL club ( click!) which is somewhat a metal bar, though a pretty expensive and lounge-ish one. If you want to have decent priced beer (under 3e is a bargain in Helsinki), head to Lepakkomies ( click!) in Sörnäinen. It's not really a metal bar nowadays, but close enough and really easy to reach with subway My personal recommendation would be Base in city center ( click!). Not quite the cheapest one nor a metal bar, but they play anything from Eluveitie to old finnish rap depending on the bartender. Usually it's something from the darker side and the atmosphere is always pretty nice. A perfect place for having a pint or two in the afternoon. If you want, I'll gladly join you for a beer or two when you're here. Just drop me a pm

I guess I'm heading for Homer and Plato next, maybe I'll post again next summer or so You will be reading the Republic? Tell us in summer how much you liked it. ;D I will I completely forgot that I also read Seitsemän Veljestä (Seven brothers) by Aleksis Kivi a while ago. I just love the theatretical language in that book ;D As one of the classic works of finnish literature, it deserved to be read from a pretty large, yellow-paged edition from the 30's. Instead of going to a book store I just picked up Louis Theroux's Call of the weird which I've started several times but never finished (I suppose). I'd prefer to read a complete version, so I didn't pick if up quite yet.

yeah but most of my pics are larger than the allowed attachment limit, and it's a damn chore to upload them to photobucket, resize them there, then upload the resized images here which is a shame, since I got a lot of interesting/haunted pics. Damn, I should really rewrite those Baardhamer's 8 years old rules some evening. I changed the picture part now, 300x400 px was enough maybe back in the day when the max screen resolution was 1024x768 Now you can post images of any size as attachments, since it generates a thumbnail that doesn't mess the layout and old computers up. If the image's file size is larger than the attachment limit (1mb), just post links to the pics.

Damn you people are fast readers. Since my last post I've read only Led Zeppelin biography "Hammer of the gods" and Bram Stocker's Dracula which I just finished. I guess I'm heading for Homer and Plato next, maybe I'll post again next summer or so
