Dio And not Metal, but Rock singers are: Steve Lee from GOTTHARD. And Freddie Mercury - QUEEN. And why namely those? Could you explain it for few simple lines?

Ок. ARIA was the first metal-band that I heard. It happend when I was 14. Valeriy Kipelov have a great strong voice, he can sing in opera, but, thanks God, he choosed metal. I can't explain why he voice good, you must hear it. Lemmy, Bruce and Dio... I don't know why, but they voices catchs me. The same concerns Mercury and Lee but in Rock music.

Oh yeah Kipelov does have a great voice, almost reminds me of Bruce Dickinson. Just as strong a voice, anyway!

My fave male vocalist is Marco Hietala from Nightwish and Tarot, because although he can't do grunts like the ones required in death or black metal, he has a very strong, piercing voice, but also a soft one when it's needed. Most of all, because he SINGS. The grunt vocalists are something else for me, one can't really compare someone who does grunts with someone who uses his singing voice with all of its registers.
Female vocals...I'd go for the singer of Angtoria, I don't know her name. Her voice is, again, very strong and bombastic, perfect for metal. To be honest, I like operatic voices more, but I guess they can't really be included in metal.

Kai Hansen- He has a great (and somewhat generic) power metal voice, but it has sort a growl to it that I really like. Wilska- He cn do harsh vocals the way they should be. I really dislike high pitched stuff (ie. Alexi Laiho), but Wilska can go low. Hansi Kursch- He's unique, loud, and a genius with multi-layering Dave Mustaine- Well... he's... Dave Mustaine.

Mats Levén, he sang for Therion, now for Krux and he has some projects with other groups or solo.
I think he has the most exceptional voice of the ... World!

Dez Fafara (Devildriver) Freddie Mercury (Queen) George Fisher (Cannibal Corpse) Randy Blythe (Lamb Of God) Vreth (Finntroll) Till Lindemann (Rammstein) Simone Simons (Epica) Floor Jansen (After Forever) Tarje Turunen (Ex-Nightwish) A guy from some latin band called Banda Blanca (it's something with my origins ) All of those are vocalists for the first metal/rock bands that i heard except the last one but my familie is Surinam.

My favourite metal vocalists are... -Liv Kristine of Leaves' Eyes: A unique voice, an amazing stage charisma and a friendly person. -Tarja Turunen: She was the vocalist of the best metal band in the world, but Nightwish will never recover from her departure. -Lauri of Metsatöll: Ability of playing such rare folk instruments is impressive, just like his vocals! -Quorthon: Perhaps not the best vocalist in the world, but his compositions, lyrics and influence on metal make him legendary. The list turned out to be rather short, because most of my favourite vocalists really don't fit to the metal category.

@helran, you're right, Mats Levén sounds amazing on Therion! I'll have to check out his other projects. Therion always pick the most amazing vocalists for their recordings! @virva, I can give a partial answer to "why?" even though it wasn't my posting Tarja Turunen is self-evident, I think she needs no explanation! And Johan Hegg has THE SEXIEST death growl I have ever heard in any death metal band... and those long sets they do... that man must have vocal cords of steel...

Johan Edlund (Tiamat) Nergal (Behemoth) Lemmy (Motorhead) Why? Edlund has a very warm, melodic voice, Nergal has a great growl, and Lemmy is god

Has anyone mentioned Devin Townsend? Amazing. He has a great voice and range, and at the end of Ocean Machine he seems to have mastered the art of the demon scream. He manages to scream his lungs out while still playing a mean guitar. I bow to him.

I Love these Singers for them greatest voices:
1) Bruce Dickinson I listened Live in Rome last Months and he always did a great Live concert.
2) Steve Lee of Gotthard is my favourite singer, I will see newly Him in Rome on 11 December 2007, When he came to Rome he was ill, but he sang doing his live show Perfect.
3) Tarja Turunen is the perfect Singer for the Opera as The female Singer of Therion.
4) Lemmy Kilminster is an Icon, I never discuss his voice, is Rude, That's Sounds Rock'n'Roll.
5) Ralf Sheepers is Primal Fear's Singer and is the Copy of Rob Halford's Judas Priest era.
5) Rob Halford is only the metal God and Stop!! His Voice Screams perfect.
6) Blackie Lawless of W.A.S.P. is the Angry Voice, but the worst voice in the planet. You must listen Him because guitars are great as Drum.
7) I Like also The Female Singer of Raud-Ants Is very Pretty and Runo-Singing. It's Sound Estonian.
8) I like also Candice Night of Blackmore's Night, is a great Singer.
9) I Like Dave Evans, Bon Scott and Brian Johnson of AC/DC because them voices are Dirty, them songs sounds Australian Way Rock'n'Roll.
10) I like the Voice of Amon Amarth's Singer, It's Strong, Hard, Growl, It sounds Viking.
