'cliché' - Fish
I've got a reputation of being a man with a gift of words Romantic poetic type or so they say But I find it hard to express the way I feel about you Without getting involved with the old clichés
In the old clichés, it's an old cliché
This song's begun so many times but never in a way That you won't consider to be an old cliché. I want to say that I need you, I miss you when you're away And how it seemed like fate - oh here we go - the same old clichés
It's the same old clichés
It's not that I'm embarrassed or shy, well, you know me too well But I want to make this song special in a way that you can tell That it's solely for you and nobody else For my best friend, my lover, when I need help - cliché Everything I want to say to you is wrapped up in an old cliché I'd waited so long to find you, I'd been through the heartbreak and pain But of course you already know that 'cause you've been through the same That's why I'm trying to say with my deepest sincerity That's why I'm finding it comes down to basic simplicities The best way is with an old cliché It's simply the best way, is with an old cliché Always the best way is with an old cliché I'll leave it to the best way, it's an old cliché I love you

Iced Earth - Watching Over Me
I had a friend many years ago One tragic night he died The saddest time of my life For weeks and weeks i cried Through the anger and through the tears I've felt his spirit through the years I'd swear, He's watching me Guiding me through hard times
I feel it once again It's overwhelming me His spirits like the wind The angel guarding me Oh, I know, oh, I know He's watching over me Oh, I know, oh, I know He's watching over me
We shared dreams like all best friends Blood brothers at the age of ten We lived reckless, he paid the price But why? Why did he have to die? It still hurts me to this day Am I selfish for feeling this way? I know he's an angel now Together we'll be someday
I feel it once again It's overwhelming me His spirits like the wind The angel guarding me Oh, I know, oh, I know He's watching over me Oh, I know, oh, I know He's watching over me

Almost anything by Skyclad, really. Martin Walkyier is a true Genius when it comes to poetry.
The Disenchanted Forest
[The Farm Hand's Ghost:] "My kin and I had laboured hard to reap the yearly harvest. Lain weary on our gathered sheaves we cracked a vat of ale. Poured a toast; Began to boast of who could sup the hardest. Slumped in drunken slumber at the height of wild wassail....
I woke to find my brothers gone that Autumn eve so balmy. Yet gazed in wide-eyed terror to the barley fields nearby. Struck dumb I swore; Stood before a mighty woad-duabed army. Believed my wits deceived me 'til I heard their battle-cry."
[The Lord Of The Trees:] "Smash the axe and sow the seed; Don't cause the Oaken Heart to bleed!"
[The Farm Hands Ghost:] "When he that led this heathen horde cast-off his ivy mantle; Cohorts raised honed halberds flying pennants of leaf-green. From below approached the foe; A fierce scythe-bearing hantle. Captains sat triumphant upon coughing, steel machines."
[The Forces Of Progress:] "Break the bough and strip all of it. Fell this forest, make a profit!"
[The Farm Hands Ghost:] "Opposing forces clashed beneath a red sky cracked by thunder. Entrenched beneath the hedge-row I'd observed it quite unseen. One side stood to save the wood: T'other planned it's plunder, I chose to fight for Nature's right; Grabbed a fallen skean.
All who would one flower destroy, must first cut down this Didycoy!
We fought until the last that day to gain a hard-won victory, Sucked in by the thirsty earth I watched my life-blood ebb. Though I died at least I'd tried to play some part in history; A momentary trembling on the threads of Wyrd's web."
[The Lord Of The Trees:] "Are there more so brave and honest; Who would die to save my forest?"
Alan Averill from Primordial is another of my "heroes", lyrically.
The Golden Spiral
One day I stood with my back to the wind And the rain fell down Raised my fist to the cobalt sky And called to the Gods ...Where are you?
I stood in the stream with cold clear water Rushing around me Cold stone underfoot And called again to the Gods ...Where are you?
I sat in the forest clearing Surrounded by wood and leaf A Raven watched my every move I could feel my heartbeat Thundering Deep within my veins
I set foot on foreign land Held my brothers and sisters to me And saw the same questions in them Yet when I clasped their hands I felt their Blood beneath mine I had found my answer
And finally, of late, Solefald's red for Fire also gave me a few really wonderful poems:
Sun I Call
Sun I call burning wheel Sword I call wolf of steel
Star I call sword of light Rune I call sign in stone
Man I call tree that thinks Earth I call grave of men
God I call not of earth Sky I call home of gods
Sea I call flock of waves Ship I call horse at sea
Mount I call giant dead Wind I call Midgard's breath
Life I call kiss of gods Fire I call wrath of life
Love I call lust for more Child I call made of love
Name I call eternal life Worth I call what lives on
Law I call hard as Hel Fear I call unjust law
King I call head of men Queen I call pride of king
Dream I call what is not Time I call Odin's dream
World I call Yggdrasil Death I call end of all
Sorry for the huge post. But i could not simply write a single lyric. In fact, I very well may have more from all these three and more.

Moonchild-King Crimson
Call her moonchild Dancing in the shallows of a river Lovely moonchild Dreaming in the shadow of the willow.
Talking to the trees of the cobweb strange Sleeping on the steps of a fountain Waving silver wands to the night-birds song Waiting for the sun on the mountain.
She's a moonchild Gathering the flowers in a garden. Lovely moonchild Drifting on the echoes of the hours.
Sailing on the wind in a milk white gown Dropping circle stones on a sun dial Playing hide and seek with the ghosts of dawn Waiting for a smile from a sun child.

Wyrd - Autumn
Summer bleeds its last shades of green To the darkened pool of dead emotions Pond of decayed dreams and withered love Why should I carry on, when all hope is gone?
Come the autumn, come the rain Wash away all the bitterness and hate
Fall - Come the autumn Fall - Come the rain
Carve it to the firs, carve it to the oaks Scream it to the stars, shout it at the world Dwelling in self-pity, in self-caused pain All bridges burnt, the only way is down
Come the autumn, come the rain Come the nightfall, welcome death
Fall - Come the autumn Fall - Come the rain
Fall - Come the end

Down The Line Subway to Sally
I don't have any money all out of nickels and dimes ridin' around in the subway just like a sign of these times but it's fine down the line at the end of the tunnel shines a light I call Sally and Sally tells me she's mine any time
Subway to Sally ridin' from station to station Sally's my destination
keep your slow boat to China your jet plane faster than sound keep your luxury liner I get around underground
Subway to Sally ridin' from station to station Sally's my destination

In Extremo - Herr Mannelig
Eder vill jag gifva förgyllande svärd Som klingar utaf femton guldringar Och strida huru I strida vill Stridplatsen skolen i väl vinna
I do not understand a word of it and did not find a translation, but the text fits great to the music and sounds awesome.

In Extremo - Herr Mannelig thats a great song! Haggard and Garmarna made a cover too. Since it's a middle age ballad. Did you hear them? i think Garmada did it the best

Thyrane- Black Harmony
I once walked in shadowland. I heard the howls of a hundred wolves, how they sung with severed forgotten winds, the shivering twilight anthem. A rising strom, i first thought, but the caves of diffs, forests, mountains resounded the same tunes, nightspirit symphony.
Those tunes darkly penetrate my heart, that's where they came from. The black harmony mesmerized my mind. It was as if i've join a choir of ancient dark desires. I heard the whispers. Fire embraces.
I faded into strange silence, and ardently sacrificed to the nocturnal voices. With blood on my hands, i hailed my master. Thou can hear the howls from sable dimensions, which the night can't resist. Wander as the lost with unholy harlots...sin's miracles.
Hark...your instincts are gone. Thou lived in knowledge of lies, in the words of weak. Calls for fettered waves, far away to unknown shadows, feeling the distance to the light. When the dreams of the believers died, thy christian soul, the wolves slept unsad.
May the silent whispers beyond the light, fascinatingly reach many paths, Sans goal.
In the eternal night towards storming seas, in infinity undaunted eternity, Fullmoon's nocturnal ceremony, fortress of shadows. Night, assembly hall of possession...extolled black harmony.
Above the clouds, above my soul, the sky turns blacker by enthrailing dreary caw. Darkness bare the eyes of a ravenswarm, it's time to spread the wings and fly to the crowd of dignity. Gliding through the gates of times, feel the ecstacy of symphonous might, in this earth of sacred, i'm surrounded by the fools ecclesiastical.
Over the blackened sacrifice, over the darker lands. I lay my throne, founding the deepest thoughts from beyond this mortal world. The malignant visions, sardonic howls guide me to the vicious dark destiny: nightspirit symphony, embracing my soul in eternity.
I once walked in shadowland. I heard the howls of hundred wolves, how they sung with severed forgotten winds, the shivering twilight anthem. A rising strom, i first thought, but the caves of diffs, forests, mountains resounded the same tunes ...nightspirits symhony-eternal might.
