Wow! Is there a possibility that I can read it later on after the professors are through with it etc.? Oooh, I'd like to read it too! I had recently picked up a book called "Women in the Viking Age" by Judith Jesch and am finding it quite interesting... Oh, someone revived the thread. The professors are through with it and I got an A for it. I wanted to convert the files and stuff but I think I don't have the proper software yet. Also, it's in German. I guess that might cause a problem for some people ;-). That book by Judith Jesch is very good. It was one of the first trying to bring the results together. She is still kinda vague but uses a lot of archaological material. If you wanna read more, I can recommend pretty much anything by Jenny Jochens. She's a retired American professor and has worked on viking women for 30 years or so. The best books are "Women in Old Norse Society" and "Old Norse Images of Women" though I would prefer the first one. Jochens and Jesch are a good combination to get information from. Otherwise, there are many essays about the topic. And I cannot speak about the stuff published in Scandinavian languages because my little Swedish is even too poor for that. Many Scandinavians have published in English and there is some very, very good literature from England and the US.

"Also, it's in German." Duh! I should have realized that would be the case I will stick with the Judith Jesch book then, and I will look for the Jenny Jochens books sometime, thanks for the recommendations!!

Yes, it´s pretty close to me too even i´m still studying...but i don´t think that i´ll ever have the motivation to study in university etc. I´ve always been very lazy and i hate it! Right now when i have a break from my studies i´m a cleaner and i´m more than happy with it; there´s a lot of work but after you´re finished from the day you don´t have to think about it. It different with studies; you always have to study on your free time and i hate it!

I think that would drive me nuts... I need variety... I find it hard to keep the same job for too long, because if I'm doing the same thing every day for longer than a couple of months, I start feeling like I'm going psycho... which is why I liked university, it sure is a lot of work but at least it's something new all the time.

kwerkykat, I understand your point as well and after thinking about it for a while, i also agree with you. The ideal situation would be something between work and studies; work what brings some new challenges or stydying a bit slower but with less work

Looks like I haven't replied yet? I study av-media and soon multi-whatever-future-media at polytechnics degree. The first year was the basic studies about graphics, typography, filming, audio equipment, publishing etc etc., but starting from August we'll be mainly filming and running that av stuff for Meduusa TV, an online "television" with live broadcast on every thursday at 14:00. Gods know what we're going to do after next year then Most likely we're going to explore the possibilities of digital tv broadcasting as well as mobile devices and produce all kinds of entertainment and content for them. Only the imagination will be the limit Edit: you can watch Meduusa TV's programs at "Arkisto" if you feel so. They're categorized in the drop-down menu, and unfortunately all of them are in finnish, but there are few silent ones as well.

Well for me, I start my introduction week tomorrow... bit of discovering Amsterdam and have some bar crawls . Some very complicated programme for the entire university... but there are groups of every study itself... So it's just like meeting my study-mates for the first time...
