Jonne, always when I listen to 'field in flames' I wonder if you wrote those lyrics with a certain picture or movie in your mind. It is such a strong image.. I can see it before me. I cannot explain why I get this feeling, therefore I'll ask! 'Cottages and sauna's' is war inspired...but which war? Turre told me about the Finnish past, so many wars, such an heroism, such a loss. What was the direct reason for writing this song? 'Old Tale' is inspired by a fairytale? Or is it one you created yourself? I think your poetic power of expression is very good, I like the imagery language in your songs!

I think your poetic power of expression is very good, I like the imagery language in your songs! Inspired of Fields in flames song was Klaus Kurki who was some kind of judge some part of Finland but made work to King of Sweden. Finland was the part of Sweden to year 1809. Klaus collected the taxes with two hundred horsemen around Finland pretty cruel way as you can hear from the song. His lands and estate was in the Vesilahti. Vesilahti is the place that I growed up. www.narva.sci.fi/amaijala/I used with Cottages and saunas inspired, feelings and some lines from Finnish war movie Tuntematon sotilas. "We eat iron and shit the chain" and "attack forward you nordic boy" is directly translated from the lines of the movie. Somehow the chorus is little bit like after war feelings. I mean something like "we gonna rise again" Old tale song name could be "same old tale again" as well. You can find the same tale something like 2500 books and movies. "Rich girl falls in love with poor boy and got pregnent to him without married" Nothing was worse than that in the old days. The song Old tale is just my variation of the story.

Thanks a lot! Turre told me about that part of Finnish history, but before I never knew that Finland has ever been a part of Sweden, I was really surprised to hear that . Tax collectors were often cruel in several countries (still are in another way ;D), but this goes beyond limits. The image of the man: "he lit the fire under the house, you could only see his feet..." grabbed me. That one sane man, who sees the insanity of his mates...it's upside down. A beautiful place to grow up, btw. All those lakes and woods, breathtaking! In 'cottages and sauna's' is the feeling: "we're gonna rise again" very clear. The whole song says this in a way. 'Old tale' Yep, you are right, course this is a story that has been told thousands of times. But the murder on the father and the already grown new born son, are somewhat unusual elements, that's why I asked. Maybe you could explain something about the great song 'Kädet siipinä', I love the lyrics, I can see the procession, almost a picture like in Fellini's movies. And 'Spirit of the forest'. Is this a spirit from old legends or beliefs? Has it a name?

I used with Cottages and saunas inspired, feelings and some lines from Finnish war movie Tuntematon sotilas. And Tuntematon sotilas deals with The Continuation War, if you want read about it, just go to google and search "The Continuation War". The Continuation War is still little bit hard matter to discuss. Yes, we had a contract with Hitler, on the other hand Soviet Union planned another attack to Finland. Soviets bommed us first but on the other hand we had German troops in our territory...

Turre, you explained it to me on msn, it was quite understandable. I think they had no choice and played both parties off against one another. I can understand that this sounds sometimes a bit arbitrary, but those are very unusual situations, they had to make the best of it, and they did as I understood you correctly. Who knows what to do in those circumstances... So easy to judge... And thanks for the hint about searching!

And after continuation war Finland became famous 'cos it was the only country that completely payed the accordated payments to USSR, and also rejected Marshall plan... that was what my Finnish teacher told us precisely this wednesday; it's curious we were talking about continuation war and now it has been discussed here also!

"Kädet siipinä" came after I red some real storys about finnish evacuation people after the war. There was many kilometres long black queue mourning and crying people. Mainly just became widows and children with their stuff and cows. The countries line changed after the war so they have to move away from the old Finland. I had a demo recording one of Hittavainen`s song which was bleak and oppressive and I just wrote the text listening the song. Whole text came very easy because of my "right kind of" bleak mood.

This is really great. Not what happened, but the way you pictured it in the song and here. I can almost see/feel this. Poor, desperate people. If you didn't write about these things, I probably never would have heard about this.
