Good subject!
I was trying to get my Mum to listen to some Korpiklaani, and she was sitting at the computer desk whilst I was kneeling on the floor next to her, watching the screen, expecting her to be doing so to. When I look up, she is looking around the room, totally not paying attention, and says: "Why is there a half-naked girl calendar in your room, Alison?"

I introduced Korpiklaani to my Mother and Granmother, my Granmother has 86 years old, they like them, but they don't understand why I listen Heavy Metal, because in Italy there isn't a Metal culture. pellonpekko

Everyone seems to be introducing Korpiklaani to their parents... I differ as my mum (43) introduced them to me Is this a good or bad thing? Of course it is a good thing, as I love Korpiklaani, but to have a parent introduce them to me? I leave this undecided.

I always have music on, so my mom's had to put up with Viking/Folk metal for quite a while now. She's actually come to like it, she said she loves the music but hates the vocals.
When I was ordering Korpiklaani's last album, I told my mom to listen to two of Korpiklaani's songs (Cottages and Saunas, Journey Man), and she laughed and said not bad. I let her listen to the samples of the new album today and she laughed as well. Probably because its like nothing she's ever heard before...(even bands like Finntroll dont have this much folk influence)...
It also reminds me of some polish folk melodies, as I'm 100% polish...and unfortunately stuck in NYC.

Well... when I heard Korpiklaani first, I show it to my friend, who is a metalhead:D and she liked it, of course. We played wooden pints all day and we played with a mobile phone because on it there's a dog who headbangs if you shake the phone. So the dog headbanged to the music of Korpiklaani:D After that, I took home the cd, and played it loud( the same song). My mother and my older sister( who likes "tucc" music...something between pop and techno) said:" What's this strange noise?" my sister went to my room, and then the singing started and she had a strange face, and told:" why do you listen that...noise and that... that's not a voice!" And she go out so quickly. That's the reason why I don't show them my music... my father is the only hope for me, because he like Hammerfall... so, amybe one day I show him Korpiklaani:D:D( but...don't ask the connection between the 2 things:D)

My mother saw today few Korpiklaani videos. She said something like: "Funny music, but OMG how they look!"

Hah, in fact the reaction from my grandma at seeing one of those photos I was showing her once (she never heard the music, just as curious as grandmas are, asking what concerts are you going to all the time?) was *pointing at Kalle* "Oh, they also have a girl in that group!" ;D

My mum likes Korpiklaani, she thinks that's a great idea to put together folkmusic and metal. Eventhough my mum listens nothing but really different stuff, she can handle my music too (even Immortal did not get a bad word from her, well, she said the singing is a bit funny but anyway ). Except she really likes our folk music like Värttinä and Hedningarna so that helps a lot. My mum did complain about my dressing and stuff like that before, but i think she knows nos that that's the way of life i have chosen and supports it. She even suggested a couple of years ago that i should buy black curtains .

My dad grew up with Jethro Tull, so he appreciates and loves woodwind and accordian stuff (his favorite is Tuli Kokko), but my mom can't stand it when I blast some 'klaani on the stereo
