I'm actually in the process of putting together a tour of the Scandinavian capitols -- hopefully by 2010, maybe 2011 with the cost and wanting to splurge a bit. Most of my relatives came over from Copenhagen and Odense so I am desperate to get over to Denmark especially! After that gets accomplished I'm looking into Faroe Islands and Iceland, followed by Scotland and Ireland if the years allow by then! That's pretty much it! Although I wouldn't entirely rule out the Far East if the situation presented itself! Most of my mates fancy going to the Caribbean and other sweaty places. Just not my thing.

Scandinavia's on my list... Europe's on my list... Hell what isn't on my list? The more I travel, the more I come to realize how small our world really is... and how much more there is to discover. I'm guessing Scandinavia can be travelled in one several-month trip, it's a matter of staying at hostels and camping out and maybe sleeping in empty barrels in the summer a la Huck Finn Same for Europe. After being used to the geographical distances here in the US, Europe and all those tiny countries in it are all bunched up like sardines by comparison, and are easily conquered with a car and a road map. I may get sucked into the vortex of Germany though and may never emerge... So many locations to visit are on my dream list. From Teutoburgerwald and Black Forest to the Köln cathedral and Goethe's Weimar and Kleist's grave and Heinrich Heine Institute and Wagner's Bayreuth.. And even more beautiful woods, just to wander through them and hear the echoes of the past rustling in the leaves. Scandinavia's another such vortex.

Hjalagh, we seriously need to make a group effort to have that happen, would be amazing! For me it is a tie between Germany and Scandinavia, it is hard to say if that tie will ever be broken, there are just so many of my interests within these two places that I will forever be in love with them. Although the current book I am reading on Finland makes me lean towards wanting to go there. The more I read about the Finns, the more I feel that it is the exact type of people I want to be around. I am totally out of my element here in the states, every personal trait that I expound is more often than not frowned upon here, or misunderstood. Which explains why I am frequently so anti-social here, unless there is a concert to be found, then all social skills become one. Goethe's Weimar, long dream of mine to visit this place, as well as tracking down the brief abodes of Nietzsche and the other greats! Thüringia would be a great place to go. Heck, anywhere in Germany is to me a great place to go. I could spend months just visiting the homes and universities of the great Philosophers and Musicians. Let me not stay too long on this, the more I talk about it and the more I think about it the more depressed I get that I cannot afford it! All of Europe is on my list, and I would love to literally walk the whole distance, no matter how long it took. I love adventure and I love traditional methods of travel. I would take delight in curling up into a ball and sleeping under some tree cover in a forest every night. It is funny, I actually find "comfort" to be uncomfortable. I could live happily as a nomad traveling around and gathering my own food. Although this I know will remain a dream, sadly. *sniff*

Caption, please... what place is that? By the looks of it, resembles a fjord somewhere. Conspicuous lack of trees point to the Scottish Isles, the Faroes, or somewhere thereabouts.

I may have talked a friend into putting together a weekend trip to Moscow or St Petersburg!!! ;D ;D ;D Would take a small miracle to pull off the cost but who needs to pay rent?!? Of course, it wouldn't be until at least the end of this year or early next, but how awesome is that!!!! First trip across the Atlantic!! I just have to keep reminding him and hopefully I don't annoy him to the point where he leaves me stranded!
We're in negotiations now.... woohoo!!

CONGTRATS CRYSTIANNIA!!! I hope that the trip works out for you and that you are able to make it there! If you get a chance to run into Croc while you are there, drink an extra Pint for us all will ya? I'm working on a trip across the atlantic, but who am I kidding I've been working it out since I was born. I have no funds, nor any way of making funds, but I'll be damned if I let that prevent me from at least planning something out. haha

To Moscow OR St. Petersburg? I may help you with that choice in fact, St. Petersburg is much more interesting than Moscow. It represents the XVIII century most... But if you like elder times, go to Moscow - I'll also try to go there, but the train is very expensive... The only bad thing is that I can't give you a place to live - I live in a small flat, 4 people in two rooms... But I'll definetely show you Petersburg if you will be here! The Korpies' gig here will be at December 10th, but I'll be drinking since the very morning before it. So the best for you is to come in the first decade of December! I will wait... My dream destination is Hyperborea. One of my lifelong dreams is to discover it under the ices of Arctic...

I would not pass up the oppurtunity to share a few beers with you!! I will convince my friend that the only place worth going is St Petersburg!
