Thanks to another movie rental place going out of business I was able to get myself some wonderful "foreign" films for a great price. Among my purchases was the German films "So weit die Füsse Trage (As far as my feet will carry me)" and "Das Leben der Andern (Lives of Others)". Russian films "The Cuckoo" and "1612". And last but not least the Swedish film "Let the Right one in." So far I have seen all except 1612, and I love them all. Maybe it's just because I'm biased to everything made in Europe and the beautiful Languages they are in, but I also think it's greatly because they don't make movies as wonderful and thought-provoking as these in the states. For the German films, it was nice to see in the former case a movie that took place during WWII but DIDN'T revolve around "those evil nazis", and instead elaborates on a true story of a German Prisoner of War escaping from his Siberian prison and walking his way to freedom. The movie added in some typical movie magic to make the story more entertaining, or at least more accessible, but it wasn't overboard. Wonderful movie that hopefully helps others to see that even Germans had terrible hardships during the war. The Cuckoo was quite an interesting movie. I had to buy it since it had not only Russian, but Finnish and Sami. This also takes place durring WWII, and involves an odd love-triangle between a Sami woman and two soldiers: one Finnish and the other Russian. Gives an interesting insight into the oddities of miscommunication, as well as some cultural interpretations of various things. Great movie. The Swedish film "Let the Right One In" was as well absolutely wonderful. I was skeptical of it at first because it involved kid vampires, and the trailer I saw for it made it seem similar to the terribly popular "Twilight" hollywood films (of which I am no fan). But after watching it, I realized how far away from the "twilight" crap this movie was. Surprisingly brutal, and an all around refreshing intake on vampires in a modern setting. Not to mention, it was in Swedish: the movie could have sucked but as long as they were speaking frequently I would still have loved it.

Russian "historical" films usually bear (damn, no posting about Russia without any bears) a very subjective point of view, so be careful watching that. Fortunately, "1612" is not even positioned as a historical movie, and the creators of it honestly say that lots of historical facts were ignored.

Indeed. I keep this in mind with every historical movie I watch. They always mess with history to make it more "entertaining", which I've never understood since to me the historical versions are far more entertaining than the crap they come up with. I've noticed that with 1612 a lot of Poles were mad because they say it depicts Poland and its people in a negative way. I have yet to see it, but either way to me it is simply a movie and has no bearing on the reality of the true wars of that era.
It always used to be my dream to make movies that were as accurate as possible in regards to history. I am not sure about 1612, but in the majority of, or all of, hollywood movies always mess up things just to make it "cool". For instance in 300 they make it seem as if it was only the 300 all along, whereas, namely in the last battle, there was actually an aid of an extra thousand or so soldiers. But to me this doesn't take away the power, compared to the persian army they were still outnumbered. Ironically the most accurate historical movie is that of "Excalibur", and that's not completely true historical facts, but at least they followed the writings of Mallory and other Arthurian authors to quite a great degree.

Watched Heavy Metal and El Topo two days ago. I've seen the first one a couple of times when I was a kid, but for some reason I didn't remember that it had that much boobs ;D The second one is a pretty psychedelic Mexican western from the 70's. You'd think that a movie that has only a faint idea of a story and makes no sense for most of the time would get boring after a few minuts, but it was actually pretty enjoyable for the whole two hours.
Today I watched Nummisuutarit once again. It's an old finnish black and white movie, based on a novel by Aleksis Kivi. The story is about an unfortunate and simple-minded young cobbler who's going to marry a girl from his nearby village. After arriving to the girl's house he finds out that she's having the wedding alrady, but with another man. The he ends up fighting and drinking for the first time in his life, meanwhile everybody else goes completely wrong in everywhere else. The characters and the dialogue in the movie are so over the top that it's one of my favourite comedies of all time ;D

I watched the new Nightmare on Elmstreet on wednesday and it scared the shit out of me. There were too many shocking moments an I had to hide behind my cow pillow sometimes And I don´t like the new Freddy actor, Robert Englund was the real Freddy, now you can forget him, he rather looks like Freddy, but I don´t know the name of the new actor. BUT you have to watch it, its really good

This is the latest film I've watched and impressed me. Will not talk about the emotional implications , but stress more the artistic components of it... The soundtrack is amazing, and it goes through all the film, including in scenes of dramatism, plus the lyrics are significantly and puts a good mark on the action. What also surprised me and I think it's genius , was the replacement of camera shots in violent scenes with paintings that suggested what happened. Hard to say more, I will only put a link here.. I recommended it highly, a film -lesson for anyone.

This is the latest film I've watched and impressed me. Had that while watching the movie Hachi/Hachiko: A Dog's Tale again last night, I think Richard Gere is the perfect actor for this movie because he accepts Hachi is the main character in this movie. No matter how many times I see this movie it will never get boring even nothing really happens it's all about loyalty and friendship. But really want to see the japanese movie about Hachi made in 1987 because that movie tells the story starting from birth till the death of the dog. And it's spoken japanese

The last movie I watched was The Black Swan.I had known that it was about ballet so I had expected that movie would be like "Billy Elliot" .Some scenes of that movie had made me too anxious(I can't stand such scenes in any movie If could stand such scenes,I would be a medic, not an engineering student ).But its story was so impressive .In conclusion,I liked The Black Swan despite the scenes which I couldn't watch xD.

My list hmm, dunno where to start, since this year I've seen only 60-70 movies, I know I know its not much Last year the number was something like +320 or so ;D Not a movie freak... ;D Latest: - Age of the Dragons, not a great movie, but not a bad one either. - Pathfinder, a great movie! I think you guys would love it, if you allready haven't seen it - The Warriors way, again a great movie! - Yip Man 2, if you like kung fu movies you like this one As you can see I'm really bad at describeing movies, if I try to tell what I liked in the movies I usually end up telling too much info about the plot etc and I don't want to ruin anyones movie experiences E: Writing correct is still hard...

No time to watch full films, but did left work in order to watch the three episodes broadcasted until now from the series Game of Thrones. Loved the book, feel the same about the series, no complaints about it. Does any of you like it also?

I've got things to do, but feel tired, so better post around. ;D Really miss doing this more often..glad that my enthusiasm is still there about this place, even in its haunted moments/phases. But about movies now...and will say a few things about the latest films I've seen. Firstly, I am happy because I've finally watched www.imdb.com/title/tt0076252/ , but all because I've read book first , OK?! And it was warmly recommended to me. Then I started a series of Spanish film nights, because I want to see all movies directed by Carlos Saura and Julio Medem (well, they're not the only ones I am interested from Spain, but both caught my attention before and had this ardent wish to watch more...like a thirst for good film. ) Mission almost accomplished , with watching up until now these: www.imdb.com/title/tt0103186/ www.imdb.com/title/tt0106305/ www.imdb.com/title/tt0117909/ I've seen before this www.imdb.com/title/tt0133363/ but I am recommending it anyway, with the hope at least one klaaner here will bother to click on links or even better bother to watch any. If didn't watch before (talking with older wolves now ). List continues with Saura's masterpieces www.imdb.com/title/tt0082088/ and www.imdb.com/title/tt0074360/ , but sometime soon will watch ''Goya'' too...with this one I am having emotions, I know Saura's approach already, add to that Goya's personality, and knowing the topic on historical conditions back then..should be sth passionate. And lately I've had reasons to experience lots of emotions already , watched war related films (Gallipoli, Full Metal Jacket, The Odd Angry Shot, Breaker Morrant...)..and still have some to watch. Keeps conscience alive and they serve as a reminder for many things. Looking back on what I've wrote already , am wondering where are the cozy viewing of Time Team with just scientific interest and not much thinking problems? ;D Joking, love Time Team, and will still watch those. Uh-oh! Where was I thinking???!!!! I forgot to mention another series of documentaries I've learned a lot from: Bush tucker Man. I feel bad for saying just this about it...will post a link though. That's all for now, I have sth to watch again.

Tiina, if you have not seeh yet, I can recommend 2 new Spanish movies with the young actor Juan José Ballesta. www.imdb.com/name/nm0050749/Entrelobos (Among Wolves), made after the real story of Marcos Rodríguez Pantoja, born on 7 June 1946. Because his family was very poor, he was given to help an old goat-shepherd in the Siera Morena mountain. After several months the old man dies and Marcos remains alone. He lived in the mountain cave from 1953 to 1965 without contact with human beings, among a wolf pack and other anomals. He is found by chanse of the Spanish Civil guard when Marcos is 19. After a period of adaptation in a hospital, he enrolled the army for some time. During the wild life, Marcos had developed very strong sense of smell and hearing, so he can hardly bear the city noise and smell. Finally he became shepherd again. In the period 1975-1976 he is observed by an antropologist and is made a conclusion, that the surviving in the wild nature is due to Marcos's big natural inteligence, which helped him learn the sounds of the animals and skills acquired before he was abondoned. This story had inspired a children's stage play "Mark", a doctor's dissertation and this film. www.imdb.com/title/tt1417582/------------------------- Bruc. La llegenda (Bruc, the Manhunt) - it is again a real story about a Spanish drummer, who used the echo in a valey to defeat the Napoleon soldiers (1808). www.imdb.com/title/tt1444680/
