Pellonpekko: This song looks like very much with Lumsk's Ormin Lange. Do they really talk about the same thing ? Ormurin Langi from tyr was I though about some battle with a dragon or something... (Ormurin was dragon?) And Ormin Lange from Lumsk is about a travel on a mighty ship with the name of 'Ormin Lange'... Maybe named after the dragon or something...

I have been working with my Dad a lot these past weeks. I always want to play music, and since he has been an Elvis fan since he was born, maybe even before , I played some of that for him. There were a few songs that I liked, and touched me at this stage in my life. ~~~ Let It Be Me god bless the day I found you I want to stay around you And so I beg you Let it be me Don't take this heaven from one If you must cling to someone Now and forever Let it be me Each time we meet love I find complete love Without your sweet love What would life be So never leave me lonely Tell me you'll love me only And then you'll always Let it be me Each time we meet love I find complete love Without your sweet love What would life be So never leave me lonely Tell me you'll love me only And then you'll always Let it be me ~~~ A Boy Like Me, a Girl Like You When a boy like me meets a girl like you Then I must believe wishes come true I just look at you and I touch your hand And this ordinary world becomes a wonderland There are many girls I have met before But I pass them by because I knew There would be this magic moment, One to last a lifetime through When a boy like me meets a girl like you When a boy like me meets a girl like you ~~~

Another song with interesting lyrics. My dad always told me: When you're being able to play this song on the piano, you'll get € 10 from me... I think it's time to learn it, cuz it's a damn beautiful song:
Jewel - Foolish Games.
You took your coat off and stood in the rain, You're always crazy like that. And I watched from my window, Always felt I was outside looking in on you. You're always the mysterious one with Dark eyes and careless hair, You were fashionably sensitive But too cool to care. You stood in my doorway, with nothing to say Besides some comment on the weather.
Well in case you failed to notice, In case you failed to see, This is my heart bleeding before you, This is me down on my knees, and...
These foolish games are tearing me apart, And your thoughtless words are breaking my heart. You're breaking my heart. You're always brilliant in the morning, Smoking your cigarettes and talking over coffee. Your philosophies on art, Baroque moved you. You loved Mozart and you'd speak of your loved ones As I clumsily strummed my guitar. You'd teach me of honest things, Things that were daring, things that were clean. Things that knew what an honest dollar did mean. I hid my soiled hands behind my back. Somewhere along the line, I must've gone Off track with you.
Well, excuse me, guess I've mistaken you for somebody else, Somebody who gave a damn, Somebody more like myself.
You took your coat off, Stood in the rain, You're always crazy like that.

Metallica: Fade to black Life it seems, will fade away Drifting further every day Getting lost within myself Nothing matters no one else I have lost the will to live Simply nothing more to give There is nothing more for me Need the end to set me free
Things are not what they used to be Missing one inside of me Deathly lost, this cant be real Cannot stand this hell I feel Emptiness is filling me To the point of agony Growing darkness taking dawn I was me, but now hes gone
Some of the lyrics kinda makes me realise about how good the old days were when I was in school. Like me and my Friends geting in to new hobbies and such. I say it makes me realise because certain parts of the lyrics are to me quite true. Like "Things are not what they used to be, Missing one inside of me" and "Growing darkness taking dawn I was me, but now hes gone" These parts stick out to me even though the song seems to be on about something else.

This Loituma song is beautiful and melancholic, Since there is an English translation available, i will post both lyrics:
Kultaansa ikävöivä / There is my lover
The poetry in both the Kanteletar and the Kalevala is in the archaic folk style. The text of this piece is, however, from the preface to the Kanteletar, which includes some later songs.
Tuoll' on mun kultani, ain' yhä tuolla, kuninkahan kultaisen kartanon puolla.
There is my lover, lingering long at the golden court of the king. Ah my lovebird, ah my darling: now you do not come! There are girls there whose looks entrance but my love's eyes don't spare them a glance. Ah my lovebird, ah my darling: now you do not come! Fair flowers, the summer morning is fair but fairer my love's eyes, his air. Ah my lovebird, ah my darling: now you do not come! The birds they sing from a lovely throat but lovelier is my darling's note. Ah my lovebird, ah my darling: now you do not come! Honey and cake are sweet on the platter but my love's lips are a different matter. Ah my lovebird, ah my darling: now you do not come! When shall I see that day of joy-- walking and talking beside my boy! Ah my lovebird, ah my darling: now you do not come! Autumn is fast of the heels of summer and yet my darling is a slow comer. Ah my lovebird, ah my darling: now you do not come! Come, come, my darling, homeward, and hurry or I shall die of longing and worry. Ah my lovebird, ah my darling: now you do not come!

Those lyrics are so beautiful, Claudia!!!!!! Believe me, I´m quite moved, really touched. I must hear this song!!!!! You know, with some changes anyone could feel that story as his/her own I´m going to post the lyrics of a song I had not listened to in many years... in fact I had not heard that album maybe in 5 years or so; so it has taken me back to my springtime, when I was 15 and 16 and was firstly entering this world of music... and now I must say that the album is really good, not as I thought at first. The album is Use Your Illusion I (number two is one album I´ve never heard)... and the song meant very much for me when I was a teenager. I´ve got no particular records from that period, but the song brings me back hundreds of feellings, images... a real good song: November Rain[/]
When I look into your eyes I can see a love restrained But darlin' when I hold you Don't you know I feel the same 'Cause nothin' lasts forever And we both know hearts can change And it's hard to hold a candle In the cold November rain We've been through this such a long long time Just tryin' to kill the pain But lovers always come and lovers always go An no one's really sure who's lettin' go today Walking away If we could take the time to lay it on the line I could rest my head Just knowin' that you were mine All mine So if you want to love me then darlin' don't refrain Or I'll just end up walkin' In the cold November rain
Do you need some time...on your own Do you need some time...all alone Everybody needs some time...on their own Don't you know you need some time...all alone I know it's hard to keep an open heart When even friends seem out to harm you But if you could heal a broken heart Wouldn't time be out to charm you
Sometimes I need some time...on my own Sometimes I need some time...all alone Everybody needs some time...on their own Don't you know you need some time...all alone
And when your fears subside And shadows still remain, ohhh yeahhh I know that you can love me When there's no one left to blame So never mind the darkness We still can find a way 'Cause nothin' lasts forever Even cold November rain
Don't ya think that you need somebody Don't ya think that you need someone Everybody needs somebody You're not the only one

Bob Dylan once wrote an amazing song tittled Desolation Row in which different characters walk through a line in a pathetycal row of portaits of allienation. All those characters are alone. My favourite Spanish songwriter wrote 27 years ago his own desolation row, only centred in one character, allienated by the loneliness because of the absence of somebody and then he feels alone in a crowd. I´ve always loved this song, and I think that everybody has been in Melancholy Street. This is for somebody who already knows for whom this translation is dedicated.
Melancholy Street
Like one riding a gloomy mare I walk across the city, don´t you ask where, Maybe I look for a meeting that throws some light to my day But find nothing else but doors that deny what they hide.
Chimneys pour their smoky vomit To a sky that gets further and higher, Through the ochre walls is spilled the juice Of a bloody fruit that grew in the asphalt.
The country must be green now, it must be spring, My stare is crossed by a never-ending train, The neighbourhood I live at is not a prairie, Desolated landscape of antennas and cables.
I live at 7th Melancholy Street, I´ve been trying to move for several years To Happiness neighbourhood But whenever I try the streetcar has already left And I sit at the stairs whistling my melody.
Like one who travels on board of a madden ship That comes from night and goes nowhere, This is how my feet descend the hill of oblivion Tired of walking and never find you.
Then, once back at home, I lit a cigarette, Put my papers in order, solve a crossword, I get angry with the shadows that crowd the corridors And embrace the absence that you leave in my bed.
I climb up your memories like bindweed That doesn´t find a window to cling, I am That absurd epidemic that pavement suffers, I you want to find me you already know where I live…
I live at 7th Melancholy Street, I´ve been trying to move for several years To Happiness neighbourhood But whenever I try the streetcar has already left And I sit at the stairs whistling my melody

Carcass... A band with lyrics that are inspired by some medical encyclopedia... Doesn't really make sense to me Mucopurulence ExcretorPyosis mucolysifies malignant mucocoeles Pustules endocrinating disseminated mortified cells Flesh punctuated by cancerous pustules Burning your face with formicating papules Mucopurulence excretor Mucopurulent organs digested in sepsis Mucolysifying, rancidifying as you eat your own cysts Putrefying your pyorrhoea - infested corpse excretes away Expelling pyuria and septic goitrous membrane

One of the band members studied medicine... so they probably got the text from that... *Wonders what it actually means in normal language...*

Dutch oooone:
Lemuria - Gerstenat (The Last Sip)

Mari Boine - It šat duolmma muWehehee-wahahaa.. Gávdnagohten maŋos. Wehehee-wahahaa.. Gávdnagohten ruoktot.
Ábiid badjel borjjastin, dál gávdnagohten maŋos. Arvedávggi faŋuhin, dál gávdnagohten ruoktot.
Wehehee-wahahaa.. Gávdnagohten maŋos. Wehehee-wahahaa.. Gávdnagohten ruoktot.
It šat duolmma mu. It. It šat.
Ábiid badjel borjjastin, dál gávdnagohten maŋos. Arvedávggi faŋuhin, dál gávdnagohten ruoktot. Internahtat moallanit, dál gávdnagohten maŋos. Láhkagirjjit gaikánit, dál gávdnagohten ruoktot.Et enää polje minua (rough translation in Finnish) Wehehee-wahahaa.. Löysin tien takaisin. Wehehee-wahahaa.. Löysin tien kotiin. Merten yli purjehdin, nyt löysin tien takaisin. Sateenkaarta kurkottelin, nyt löysin tien kotiin. Wehehee-wahahaa.. Löysin tien takaisin. Wehehee-wahahaa.. Löysin tien kotiin. Et enää polje minua. Et. Et enää. Merten yli purjehdin, nyt löysin tien takaisin. Sateenkaarta kurkottelin, nyt löysin tien kotiin. Internaatit murenivat, nyt löysin tien takaisin. Lakikirjat repeytyivät, nyt löysin tien kotiin. Et enää polje minua. Et. Et enää. You'll no longer push me down (English rough translation) Wehehee-wahahaa.. I found my way back Wehehee-wahahaa.. I found my way to home I sailed over seas Now I found my way back I chased after rainbows Now I found my way to home Wehehee-wahahaa.. I found my way back Wehehee-wahahaa.. I found my way to home You'll no longer push me down No No longer I sailed over seas Now I found my way back I chased after rainbows Now I found my way to home Boarding schools are collapsed Now I found my way back Law books are torn apart Now I found my way to home You'll no longer push me down No No longer We listened Mari Boine again in our continuation course of North-Sámi and I managed to get these lyrics. This was a good work for me to translate this from North-Sámi to Finnish, as there is much words in past tense, which we're now going trough. Thus the translation is very rough, but it gives you an idea about what's the song is about. I think it interestes people in this board, as Shaman made an own good cover version out of this in Idja album. It seems to me that this song is a protest against the politics of Norway back in 70's, when the Sámi children were forced to go to boarding school in order to adopt Norwegian language and become more Norwegians, and about the joy when all this pressure is over. There may be other interpretations too, but this is the first which came into my mind.

This is one of my very favourite songs, my favourite from one of my favourite bands. And in this moment I think it would be a good dedication for what this song means to me, and also because some of the lines fit perfectly this moment. So this is in loving memory of Pedro, 1980-2007
Dream On (S. Tyler)
Everytime that I look in the mirror All these lines on my face gettin clearer The past is gone It went by like dust to dawn Isnt that the way Everybodys got their dues in life to pay
I know what nobody knows Where it comes and where it goes I know its everybodys sin You got to lose to know how to win
Half my life is in books written pages Live and learn from fools and from sages You know its true All the things come back to you
Sing with me, sing for the years Sing for the laughter, sing for the tears Sing with me, if its just for today Maybe tomorrow the good lord will take you away
Dream on, dream on Dream yourself a dream come true Dream on, dream on Dream until your dream come true Dream on, dream on, dream on...
Sing with me, sing for the years Sing for the laughter and sing for the tears Sing with me, if its just for today Maybe tomorrow the good lord will take you away
